FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND STRUCTURE
Establishment
The Department
for Environment and Heritage (DEH) is an Administrative Unit established
pursuant to the Public Sector Management
Act 1995.
Functions
DEH’s
functions are conserving and restoring the environment by:

having
a primary role in environmental policy, biodiversity conservation, heritage
conservation, environmental sustainability and animal welfare;
·
managing
the State’s public land held in the conservation reserve system and as Crown
Lands;
·
being a custodian of information and knowledge
about the State’s environment.

Changes to Functions and Structure
Effective
from 1 April 2006 the Office of Sustainability was transferred from the DEH to
the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
STATUS OF THE FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial
report of the Department for Environment and Heritage for the year ended 30
June 2006 was not finalised in sufficient time by the Department to enable the
audit to be completed at the date of finalising this Report.
The audited financial report of the Department for Environment and Heritage for the year ended 30 June 2006 will be included in a Supplementary Audit Report to Parliament.
