Key observations

Almost half of the recommendations we selected were assessed by agencies as completed, with most of the others progressed. Agencies reported:

  • 44% of recommendations assessed are complete
  • most outstanding recommendations are being progressed rather than not addressed
  • progress is continuing for key activities, including managing homelessness services and climate change risk management.

We also found opportunities to strengthen our audit practices, including the clarity and feasibility of our recommendations.

Why this matters

This is our first review of the status of performance audit recommendations to see how agencies are implementing them.

Recommendations are the primary way our performance audits drive improvements in government administration.

Following up these recommendations helps the South Australian Parliament understand whether agencies are acting on audit findings and progressing intended reforms.
